On Sunday afternoon in Oakham, a quaint English market town, hundreds of local residents stood behind a temporary barrier and craned their necks to see the 50 or so dogs waddling past in the local library’s gardens. The yapping mutts were just a sideshow, however, to the main event, which was announced from a dais by Sarah Furness, a local dignitary: the unveiling of Britain’s first memorial statue to Queen Elizabeth II. The seven-foot bronze work, by the London-based sculptor Hywel Pratley, shows the queen in flowing robes, with three corgis at her feet. “What most of us remember about Queen Elizabeth is her warmth,” Furness said in a speech. “By showing Queen Elizabeth’s love of dogs, we show her humanity,” she added.

WASHINGTON, April 5 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Elon Musk’s Dogecoin yapping might be loud enough to hear in Washington. The token’s value soared as much as 30% earlier this week after Musk-owned Twitter featured a Shiba Inu on the social media service’s homepage instead of its blue bird logo. It could help inform the crypto-skeptical U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as it considers how to police the industry. Musk said that year that he had invested in Dogecoin, but it’s unclear how much, if any, he holds today. The SEC has largely policed crypto markets through enforcement action when it sees clear examples of tokens behaving like securities.

During the Vietnam War, US troops were supported by forces from several allied countries. The role of the Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) and the New Zealand Special Air Service (NZSAS) was especially notable. From 1966 to 1971, these two special-operations units deployed a small number of commandos to support conventional forces in Vietnam. Gradually, however, they shifted to a more aggressive stance and started going after high-value North Vietnamese and Viet Cong targets in ambushes and direct-action operations. Special operators from the two countries had fought with the British against Communist insurgents in Malaya and Borneo.
